With an impressive background as an Assistant District Attorney in Salisbury, North Carolina for four years, Clay has honed his skills in the courtroom and gained invaluable insights into the intricacies of the legal system. 

During his tenure as an Assistant District Attorney, Clay spearheaded the establishment of a dedicated DWI Trial Court, skillfully navigating jury trials and successfully prosecuting an array of cases spanning from minor traffic infractions to severe homicides.

Before obtaining his law license, Clay served as a Clerk for the esteemed Judge Lou Trosch in Mecklenburg County and gained practical experience as an Intern in the offices of the Wake County District Attorney and the Commonwealth's Attorney of Botetourt County, Virginia. These roles allowed him to develop a comprehensive understanding of legal proceedings and refine his analytical and research abilities.

Clay pursued his legal education at Washington & Lee University School of Law, where he made remarkable contributions to his alma mater. He represented W&L in a national Mock Trial competition, showcasing his prowess in advocating for justice. Additionally, Clay served on the board of the school's Journal of Civil Rights and Social Justice, demonstrating his commitment to promoting equality and social progress through legal scholarship.

Prior to his legal career, Clay graduated from North Carolina State University, where he actively participated in political campaigns across North Carolina. This hands-on involvement instilled in him a deep understanding of the political landscape and the importance of effective communication in achieving desired outcomes.

Clay resides in Statesville with his beloved family - Sarah, his wife, and their son, Miles. Clay finds joy in various pursuits outside the legal realm. An enthusiastic sports fan, he passionately supports his alma mater's team with his unwavering loyalty (Go Pack!). Clay also cherishes quality time spent camping with his family and indulges in playing soulful bluegrass music.
